Monster Storm Ophelia Unleashes Fury on East Coast! You Won’t Believe What Happens Next!
Tropical Storm Ophelia has gained strength since its formation off the Atlantic coast on Friday afternoon, with the National Hurricane Center warning of the potential for heavy rain, storm surges, and strong winds along the East Coast this weekend.
As it tracks towards the Mid-Atlantic region, Ophelia is predicted to make landfall in North Carolina early Saturday. The most severe impact is expected in parts of North Carolina and Virginia, where there is a risk of “life-threatening flash flooding.”
According to the late Friday night advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Ophelia had maximum sustained winds of 70 mph and was moving at a speed of 13 mph. The storm’s center was located approximately 70 miles southeast of Cape Fear, North Carolina.
Over the weekend, Ophelia’s center is forecasted to pass across eastern North Carolina, southeastern Virginia, and the Delmarva Peninsula, which includes portions of Maryland and Delaware. It is anticipated to weaken after making landfall, according to the hurricane center.
In anticipation of Ophelia’s arrival, the governors of North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland have declared states of emergency. Some schools have closed early as communities prepare for the storm, and several weekend events have been canceled.
